Kāwhia Moana, Kāwhia Kai, Kāwhia Tangata.
What have the Rūnanga been doing since the AGM?
The executive is currently meeting monthly, with sub- committees like education, claims management and audit meeting in addition – depending on the demands of the work streams they are responsible for.
A number of key projects are underway such as the Waiari Commemoration which is requiring close management by the Runanganui. Keep an eye out for communications from Gina, the Ngāti Hikairo co-ordinator, on this event and book a place in your diary if you can attend.
We have had updates from Lees Seymour on the progress of the MACA claim, the WAI 30 and other claims, and our engagement with Waikato Tainui and Te Arawhiti. Lee’s will be providing a regular update on the Claims Team’s progress on the website as soon as it is up and running.
Finally, some significant work has been undertaken by the Executive to improve reporting, financial controls and decision making as a governance group.
Key to that is improving communications with the tribe. With the launch of the iwi website you will see these regular communications bedding in, and included among those communications will be a monthly update from me as the Chair.
I look forward to you all taking an opportunity to follow the activities of the Rūnanga, and actively engage with your executive committee and its members.
Ngā mihi, Susan Turner
