Kia ora whānau. This will be my last message to whānau for this term as our Annual General Meeting (AGM) is on 30 September 2023 at Waipapa Marae. Many of the items that I would usually talk about will be covered in more detail at our AGM, so I will not cover these items in any detail in this report.
Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Our AGM will be on Saturday 30 September 2023 at Waipapa Marae, beginning at 10 am. The agenda and papers are or will be available on the website, with the final papers (Chairs Report, Claims Managers Report, Financial Accounts) uploaded on September 8, 2023.
Nominations for Officers and Executive Committee Members and Proxys are due to the Secretary by 23 September 2023. The secretary’s contact details are:
Waipapa Marae has been booked from Friday 29 September so Whānau who wish to travel the night before can stay at the Marae prior to our AGM if they wish. I encourage whānau to attend to support their preferred candidates and to hear what the Rūnanganui has been doing for the last 12 Months.
Te Papa o Karewa
Whānau will recall that a brace was installed to support one of the limbs of Te Papa o Karewa which was weakened after a summer storm several years ago. Recently an arborist has recommended a more permanent bracing solution for Te Papa o Karewa, which we are looking at having carved by a tohunga whakairo. We will keep you up to date with our progress looking after our tupuna rākau.
Pironga Te Aroaro o Kahu Preservation Society
In a separate item that will be published on the news item page, the society has invited whānau to be a part of the pest control and eradication programme on the Maunga and in the Ngahere. Can I encourage our whānau who have the time and skills to take part in this important work seriously consider volunteering.
Monthly Financial Update
Our treasurer has been doing an amazing job of establishing excellent controls and processes. As a result, while we still have to be careful, the Rūnanganui is in a strong financial position, which the Treasurer will cover in more detail in our AGM at the end of this month.
Finally, I wish all of our whānau good health and safe travels, and I hope to see as many of you at our AGM on 30 September.
Arohanui
Susan Turner
Chair, Te Runanganui o Ngati Hikairo
