In the context of our treaty negotiations, an oati is an agreement of the terms and conditions that we agree will apply with respect to our negotiations with the Crown. We have drafted an oati that outlines what we want as we head into negotiations. The most important aspects being:
- Recognition of te mana i tuku iho ki te iwi o Ngāti Hikairo
- Te Mana Motuhake o Ngāti Hikairo
We are meeting with Waikato-Tainui in May to discuss this Oati agreement to ensure that they are happy to agree with our terms and conditions should Ngāti Hikairo choose to join with Waikato-Tainui in negotiating the Wai 30 claim.
