Urgent Pānui Regarding Lake Mangakaware CIA Report Handover Ceremony

Kia Ora Whanau

After the events of the last several days and the ongoing National Civil Defence Emergency, the organisers of the Lake Mangakaware CIA Report Handover Ceremony in conjunction with the Waipā District Council have decided that due to the likely conditions at the Lake and forecast for further rain next week the Handover Ceremony will be relocated.

Instead a smaller ceremony will occur at the Waipā District Council Chambers, on the same date Saturday 25 February 2023.  Whanau are welcome to attend.

We appreciate that many of our whanau would have preferred this ceremony to occur at Lake Mangakaware, but after considering the logistics of setting up the site so soon after Cyclone Gabriel, the state of the roads, and the safety of some of our more vulnerable whanau members while on site, we believe that this is the best and safest option.

The times and venues are follows:

Venue: Council Chambers, Waipā District Council Chambers, 101 Bank Street, Te Awamutu

Time:  Pōwhiri and Handover Ceremony begins at 11 am

Hakari: Kaputi at the Chambers at 12.00 pm

Can whanau assemble at 1030am outside the of the Waipā District Council Buildings.  If you are planning on attending than please email Kurutia Seymour on kuseymour1@xtra.co.nz

so we can set numbers for catering.

Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to seeing you in Te Awamutu on Saturday 25 February 2023.

Chair, Te Runanganui o Ngāti Hikairo
